DTG vs DTF
DTG (direct to garment) prints ink into the fabric itself, giving a soft finish that works best on cotton. DTF (direct to film) prints onto a film that is heat-pressed on, which is more vivid, more durable on synthetics, and sits on top of the fabric rather than in it.
Choose DTG when the garment is cotton and you want the print to feel like part of the shirt, particularly for large or photographic designs on light fabrics.
Choose DTF when you need strong colour on dark or synthetic material, or when the same design has to go onto a range of different fabrics consistently. The trade is feel: DTF has a slight hand to it that DTG does not.
